The waste plan is due to be reviewed by 2024 in accordance with the council’s responsibilities under both the Local Government Act 2022 and the Waste Minimisation Act 2008.

            Engagement with sector on reimagining strategy paused in March 2023 due to proposed budget cuts in 2023/2024 Annual Budget. Following budget confirmation and directive to consolidate strategies, an approach has been reassessed. Focus will be on addressing three key shifts (which were approved by the Parks, Arts, Community and Events Committee. The redevelopment of Toi Whītiki will be considered as part of the simplify and consolidate strategies work. 

            The current strategy remains in place in the interim.
