Zealand Paralympic contingent to Paris which saw Matthew Britz from Taranaki
represent Table Tennis for the first time in 48 years. While he didn’t
make it past his first game, we take pride in the fact that the New Zealand Paralympic
table tennis team is based at the Manurewa Table Tennis Club in McVilly Road. |

Resolution number MR/2024/145 MOVED by Chairperson M Winiata, seconded by Member J Allan: That the Manurewa Local Board: a) whakarite / provide the following feedback on the proposed changes on the review of Auckland Transport and Auckland Council traffic-related bylaws outlined in Attachment A: I. tautoko / support the intention to simplify the bylaws and create efficiencies between Auckland Transport and Auckland Council II. tuhi ā-taipitopito / note that enforcement is crucial and adequate resourcing needs to be provided to ensure it can be undertaken effectively III. tautoko / support not allowing heavy vehicles to park on roads through a. adding parking-related controls and other Land Transport Act 1998 powers to regulate heavy traffic, including, the power to require security under LTA 1998 b. amending Part 2: Street Damage of the Auckland Transport Activities in the Road Corridor Bylaw 2022 to help address problems related to the use of heavy vehicles accessing development or construction sites on private lands, causing damage to nearby roads IV. tuhi ā-taipitopito / note that Auckland Transport will provide the Manurewa Local Board with a summary of local views received through public consultation to inform the formal advocacy on the local community position once the public consultation is complete V. tono / request that Auckland Transport work with local engagement and communications staff to ensure that the Manurewa community is encouraged and enabled to participate in the public consultation and make their views heard. |

Resolution number MR/2024/146 MOVED by Chairperson M Winiata, seconded by Member A Lesa: That the Manurewa Local Board: a) ohia / endorse Thriving Rangatahi b) whakarite / provide the following feedback i) tautoko / support council future investment in rangatahi having an equity lens, targeting support to those who are most disadvantaged or face a disproportionate amount of barriers to thrive ii) recognise that according to the Rangahau te Korou o te Ora/ Quality of Life Survey 2022 respondents were more likely to report a lower quality of life in certain areas in Auckland, in particular the West and South, and the strategy needs to have clear deliverables on how to address this disparity iii) tuhi ā-taipitopito / note that the Rangahau te Korou o te Ora / Quality of Life Survey 2022 found that in Auckland there is a decreased level of perceived quality of life, including a worsening perception of the city/local area due to an increase in the crime rate, presence of people they feel uncomfortable around, feeling unsafe and the high cost of living; and this should be considered as part of Thriving Rangatahi iv) tuhi ā-taipitopito / note that food security and food sovereignty is important to the Manurewa community, however it is missing from the strategy v) tautoko / support increasing civic participation and finding innovative ways for youth to have their voice heard and engage with council c) tuhi ā-taipitopito / note that on 11 September 2024 the local board attended an event with the Manurewa Youth Council, who noted some of their priorities and areas of concern including: i) addressing the number of youth vaping by exploring educational opportunities with local and central government ii) addressing the high dropout rates in Manurewa by improving school engagement and ensuring teachers relate well to youth iii) our young people are rich in talent but low in resources, more investment is needed to ensure better access to opportunities up upskill and grow talent iv) create and promote safe spaces and facilities for young people to engage in positive activities v) developing support programs to prevent school dropout and foster a positive learning environment vi) feeling unsafe in their area, which impacts how they feel and socially interact out in the community.
