Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw Review Presenter/s: Elizabeth
Osborne
Governance role: Setting direction Summary of Discussions: The local board was provided with an update on the review of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Bylaw. The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation: · Proposed structural changes to cemetery regulations. · Cultural considerations for cemetery decorations and sustainable materials. · Review of scope which includes all Council-owned cemeteries, as well as closed cemeteries which would move through more of an educational approach.
Next steps:
· Report to November business meeting · Regulatory committee review in December · Public consultation scheduled for early 2025

Connected Communities • Welcoming Communities Presenter/s: Claire

Governance role: Setting direction Summary of Discussions: The local board was provided with an update on the Welcoming Communities programme from Connected Communities. The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation: · Current funding structure and recommendation for future. · Request to clarify PR requirements for voting rights. · Interest in joint multi-language website development across the local boards. · Recommendation to continue building a relationship with KCFT. · Recommendation to promote migrant businesses through bids. · Query about including more local groups (e.g., such as retirees and sporting groups). · Recommendation to consider broader community inclusion beyond migrants.
Next steps: · Report coming to the business meeting in December.
