Local Economic Broker monthly update

Summary of discussions:

The board was updated on the ‘pillars’ – Innovation, Regional Development, Growers, Education and Visitor economy. Project development discussions included St Stephens development proposals, Franklin Identity, Franklin magazine, Franklin website, Franklin asset library, and considering AI as a tool.

Franklin Paths targeted rate programme – Paths

Summary of discussions:   

As initial projects, the board indicated support for a Shelly Bay footpath (Wairoa subdivision), Patumahoe/Woodhouse road crossing (Pukekohe Subdivision) and investigation of a crossing near Harrington/Tobin (Pukekohe Subdivision).

Staff to check for previous detailed design work prepared for the Local Board Transport Capital Fund programme,  and with the Healthy Waters programme for the Blue/Green network, to align work programmes.

A report will be presented to the February 2025 business meeting.

Urban Ngahere

Presenters:                           Howell Davies Principal Specialist - Urban Ngahere (Forest)

Governance role:                  Setting direction/priorities/budgets                   

Summary of discussions:

Staff outlined the process and timeframes for developing Franklin's Urban Ngahere Action Plan and what this plan could deliver. Individual notable trees need to be added to a schedule, as there is no blanket protection rule for trees.A ten year plan will be developed for Franklin, with 3 yearly reviews. The next workshop will be in March 2025, to update the board.

LB Annual Plan WS4 - Feedback on Mayors Proposal

Presenters:                          Georgina Gilmour, Senior Advisor

Governance Role:               Setting direction/ priorities/ budgets

Summary of discussions:

The board discussed possible feedback on the Mayoral Proposal, which was released late Monday 18 November. The board want their resolved feedback to be shared with others; the Chair to confirm.
