Purpose of the report

1.       To present the Whau Local Board workshop agenda for 27 November 2024.

Executive summary

2.     Most workshops are open to the public to attend as observers in person.

3.       Some sessions may not be open to the public. The staff / chairperson and deputy chairperson decide which sessions are open to the public, depending on the sensitivity of the information being discussed. If a session is not open, a reason will be provided below.

4.       Local Board workshops provide an opportunity for local boards to carry out their governance role in the following areas:

a)   Accountability to the public

b)   Engagement

c)   Input to regional decision-making

d)   Keeping informed

e)   Local initiative / preparing for specific decisions

f)    Oversight and monitoring

g)   Setting direction / priorities / budget.

5.       Workshops do not have decision-making authority.

6.       Workshops are used to canvass issues, prepare local board members for upcoming decisions and to enable discussion between elected members and staff.

7.       Members are respectfully reminded of their Code of Conduct obligations with respect to conflicts of interest and confidentiality.

This workshop is being held with the public excluded (confidential) as it may contain discussions of commercially sensitive information, to allow free and frank discussion.

Item 3 - Kaituhono Six-Monthly Report

Purpose:                       Six monthly progress report on the funding agreement for the Kaituhono position at Hoani Waititi Marae.

A presentation and discussion of the progress made at Hoani Waititi Marae in response to the funding agreement signed by the three western local boards in August 2024.

 

Outcome:                      This report is a requirement of the funding agreement reporting clause. 

To inform elected members of progress made

To clarify and advance points raised in the report.

Item 4 - Local Parks Volunteering and Programmes Update

Purpose:                       To provide the Local Board with a strategic update on local parks ecological volunteering work and achievements, volunteer group aspirations and planning for 2025, and the delivery of Natural Environment Targeted Rate funded programmes that local volunteers, community groups and schools participate in. 

 

Outcome:                      Increased awareness and knowledge of ecological volunteering, education and engagement initiatives associated with Local Parks (LDI and NETR funded), including the aspirations and future plans of local volunteering and community groups.

Item 5 - Whau River Catchment Trust Annual Report 2023-2024

Purpose:                       To demonstrate the impact and outcomes of the funded initiatives, ensuring transparency and accountability. It highlights how resources have been used effectively to achieve environmental and community goals. The report also strengthens the trust's case for continued or increased funding by showcasing the positive results and progress made.

 

Outcome:                      For the Whau Local Board to have an understanding of how their efforts have led to a healthier ecosystem, increased public awareness, and active participation in kaitiakitanga.

Item 6 - Making Space for Water
