Local Board Workshop

Item 1 – 1.30-2.00pm

Local Board Time

Presenter/s:                  Members and Staff

 

Purpose:                       An opportunity for staff to update members, the chair to update members and members to update each other.

 

Summary of Discussions

Members and staff discussed general business, received updates from staff and each other and were informed on upcoming events.

Parks and Community Facilities Update

Summary of Discussions

Glenveagh Park

·       Iwi input providing cultural context to the park was acknowledged.

·       A member suggested that seating will be important for grandparents looking after grandchildren.

·       Staff have noted that they will look into fencing, particularly along Mahia Road.

·       Chair asked about whether including a basketball court was possible. Staff responded that it may impact on the current design and limited budget as well as being tricky with the levelling of ground. If more earth works are required, this may require resource consent.

·       Chair asked about if consultation will be limited to the community, staff responded that there will not be restrictions, but they will definitely be engaging with local schools.

PCF Update

·       The Chair asked about the budget for repairs, specifically for the backboards at John Walker playground.

·       PCF explained the different uses for budgets, including where the funds come from for painting and renewals.

Pest Free South Auckland

Summary of Discussions

The Beautification Trust presented to the board on the work they are doing in the pest control space as well as the work they are doing to educate the community on pest control.

·       Staff discussed the results of pest control in the area and the type of programmes they run in order to address pests in the Manurewa Local Board area.

Item 4 – 3.40-4.25pm

Mountfort Park – Skyes Road strategic assessment

Summary of Discussions

Staff presented a strategic assessment for Mountfort Park.

·       The Chair noted a preference to activate the passive recreation space for more sports playing surfaces. Suggested that other areas in Mountfort Park could be utilised for passive play.

·       Members asked if staff would consider the bottom part of the wicket to be turned around for kilikiti, which is played there. Staff responded that there would to two ovals left at the top of the park, which could be utilised for this.

·       A member provided feedback to protect areas of informal recreation to accommodate people who have been using the space for a long time.

·       Chair wanted more time for the board to consider feedback on the proposal and asked for feedback to be provided to staff via email.
