Customer and Community Services – Parks and Community Facilities • Kaipātiki Local Board Sports Fields overview Presenters: Frederic Morin Scott

Governance role: Setting direction. Summary of Discussions: The local board was provided with an update on the Kaipātiki Local Board Sports Fields overview. The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation: · Discussed the viability of shared club training spaces, referencing past successes and challenges. · Examined existing pressures on natural fields, potential upgrades and whether demand warranted prioritisation. · Raised the prospect of integrating school fields into the network, highlighting the need for formal agreements. · Expressed concern over invasive kikuyu grass, questioning long-term cost implications. · Requested clarity on field usage data, booking trends, and whether data from cluster meetings could be integrated into planning. · Highlighted the importance of transparent and collaborative communication between council staff, Regional Sports Organisations, and clubs. · Questioned artificial turf costings, Opex, and long-term impacts of losing soil-based fields. · Suggested a hui with local clubs to discuss a unified, long-term field renewal and sharing strategy.

Customer and Community Services – Parks and Community Facilities • Findings and Recommendations from the Parks Accessibility Assessment Presenters: John McKellar Sophie

Governance role: Setting direction. Summary of Discussions: The local board was provided with an update on the Findings and Recommendations from the Parks Accessibility Assessment. The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation: · Acknowledged that not all proposals can be funded and prioritisation will be necessary. · Sought clarification on alternative surface options for trails and concerns about accessibility infrastructure like bollards and gates. · Queried whether there is a wider plan for accessible toilet improvements and suggested that modest investments could provide feasible solutions. · Raised concerns about lack of signage detailing walking time or distance; and encouraged future advocacy to make this a design standard. · Questioned how long-standing accessibility design standards have failed to be consistently implemented. · Recommended continued collaboration and communication going forward.

Bayview Community Centre The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation: · Queried whether the centre manager role could be formalised as full-time. · Acknowledged staff burnout across multiple sites.
Glenfield Community Centre The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation: · Questioned the promotion of commercial kitchen. · Encouraged more active use of underutilised rooms, acknowledging current infrastructure upgrades.
Youthtown The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation: · Commended approach to youth development, particularly culturally responsive initiatives recognising diverse perspectives.
Highbury House The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation: · Sought ideas for bottom-up initiatives or system-level changes to support community houses.
Birkdale Beach Haven Community Project Inc & CCMA update closing. The local board raised the following points and questions in response to the presentation · Expressed appreciation for all of the community centre updates and their continued work in the Kaipātiki area.
