Purpose of the report
1. To present the Whau Local Board workshop agenda for 30 April 2025.

Executive summary
2. Most workshops are open to the public to attend as observers in person.
3. Some sessions may not be open to the public. The staff / chairperson and deputy chairperson decide which sessions are open to the public, depending on the sensitivity of the information being discussed. If a session is not open, a reason will be provided below.
4. Local Board workshops provide an opportunity for local boards to carry out their governance role in the following areas:
a) Accountability to the public
b) Engagement
c) Input to regional decision-making
d) Keeping informed
e) Local initiative / preparing for specific decisions
f) Oversight and monitoring
g) Setting direction / priorities / budget.
5. Workshops do not have decision-making authority.
6. Workshops are used to canvass issues, prepare local board members for upcoming decisions and to enable discussion between elected members and staff.
7. Members are respectfully reminded of their Code of Conduct obligations with respect to conflicts of interest and confidentiality.

Item 1 - Te Kawerau ā Maki - Mana Kura initiative |
|
10.00am-11.00am Presenter/s: Josie Wall, Kaiārahi Mātauranga - Education Lead
Purpose / Outcome: To introduce the board to the Mana Kura initiative by Te Kawerau ā Maki, created to foster authentic relationships with schools by sharing the iwi’s history, pūrākau (stories), and mātauranga (knowledge). The programme is designed to connect schools and their communities with the rich history of the whenua, and to establish meaningful, enduring relationships with Te Kawerau ā Maki as Mana Whenua.
Governance role: Keeping informed.

Item 2 – Kāinga Ora update |
|
11.00am-11.30am Presenter/s: Jen Havilitama, Stakeholder Relationship Manager Jody Jackson, Manager Community Engagement and Partnerships Aroha Sinclair, Community Development Manager
Purpose / Outcome: Kāinga Ora to provide an update on presence in the Whau regarding developments, divestments and community development.
Governance role: Keeping informed.

Item 3 - Local Board Annual Planning Workshop 6.1 - Local Board Work Programme Development |
|
1.15pm – 2.00pm Purpose / Outcome: Local Board to provide additional feedback on the draft 2025/2026 work programme prior to presenting the finalised work programmes to the board.
Governance role: Keeping informed.
This workshop is being held with the public excluded to allow free and frank discussion.

Item 4 - Events & new signature event |
|
2.00pm – 2.30pm Purpose: To provide the local board with recommended options for a new signature event for Whau, as well as show the range of event types available or currently existing within the Events Unit.
Outcome: To select the event type/s that will move into further development and be included in the local board work programme 2025/2026.
Governance role: Setting direction / priorities / budget.
This workshop is being held with the public excluded to allow free and frank discussion.
