Seumanu Simon Matāfai, Co-Chairperson of the panel welcomed panel members, staff and members of the public and community groups online and started the meeting with a prayer.

 

Panel members introduced themselves to the members of the public in attendance.

Members are reminded of the need to be vigilant to stand aside from decision making when a conflict arises between their role as a member and any private or other external interest they might have.

That the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel:

a)         whakaū / confirmed the ordinary minutes of its meeting, held on Monday, 7 October 2024, as a true and correct record.

4          Other Business

 

            Co-Chair Seumanu Simon Matāfai spoke to the resignation of member Arizona Haddon:

 

            “I want to acknowledge that, effective Friday, 2 May 2025, Arizona Haddon resigned as member of this advisory panel. Arizona joined us at the beginning of this term and brought with her a wealth of experience in urban planning and government policy. In her day job, she is a district planner for the Thames-Coromandel District Council, which is quite a long way from her home at Silverdale. She advocated for housing equity for Māori and Pacific peoples and improving public transport. On behalf of the panel, I want to thank Arizona for her contributions over this term. We will miss her presence and wish her and her family well for the future.”

 


 

 

Note:   The Co-Chairperson accorded precedence to Item 6 Elections Community Engagement at this stage.

Elections Community Engagement

 

Sonja Tomovska, Senior CCE Specialist - Elections provided a PowerPoint presentation. Panel members and members of the public asked questions and provided feedback to the presenter.

 

A copy has been placed on the official minutes and is available on the Auckland Council website as a minutes attachment.

Pasifika Elections Statistics

 

Erin Temu, Senior Community Engagement Advisor from the Electoral Commission spoke to one of the slides in the presentation in Item 6 and answered questions from panel members and members of the public.

Vi Hausia, Deputy Chairperson of the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board provided a verbal presentation and answered questions from panel members.

Panel member Seimoana Naisali, who is on the Elections Cross Panel facilitated an open talanoa on local governance, local elections and civics engagement.

Seumanu Simon Matāfai, Co-Chair of the panel thanked all who took the time out of their evening to be a part of this meeting. On behalf of the Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel, he thanked the presenters and guest panel members. He reminded all that the recording for this meeting and any of the unanswered questions will be uploaded online over the next week. He ended the meeting with a prayer.

 

7.42pm                                               The Co-chairpersons thanked members for their attendance and attention to business and declared the meeting closed.
