· acknowledge the passing of Dr Jeff Samasoni, Doctor of Philosophy who held numerous academic qualifications in the building and construction industry - born and bred in our ward. We send aroha and condolences to Jeff’s friends and whanau
· congratulate Monica Lemalu from Māngere College who was presented with New Zealand’s Top Samoan scholar award in Parliament on the 7th of May
· acknowledge all Māngere-Ōtāhuhu residents who graduated this month with a certificate, diploma, bachelor’s degree or postgraduate. Congratulations to all
· congratulate Jo and Justin Latif and 275 Times who picked up two awards at the 2024 NZ Community Newspapers Association Awards: Best Community Involvement (Māngere Youth Voices Project) and runner up for Best Front Page – Magazine. Pleased the local board was able to support with some funding towards the Youth Voices project
· congratulate Bronson Chungson from Māngere, selected to represent New Zealand at the 2025 World Aquatics U20 Men's Water Polo Championships in Croatia
· congratulate our students from Ōtāhuhu College and Kings College who represented our area with two teams each in the 2025 Mini United Nations Assembly (MUNA)
· congratulate Moana Pasifika super rugby team, on their run of wins in recent weeks in the Super Rugby competition. Many of the players and staff reside or have connections to the local board area. Also acknowledge the numerous Blues players and staff who reside or have connections to the local area and wish both sides all the best for the rest of the season.

Estella Lee, Chairperson of the Chinese Conservation Education Trust (CCET), was in attendance to speak about the proposed Ōtāhuhu Community teaching garden and bike hub, showcasing how these initiatives can bring various benefits to residents in Ōtāhuhu, including but not limiting to improving health, promoting wellbeing, saving cost, enhancing environmental sustainability, while fostering community engagement and social cohesion. Resolution number MO/2025/70 MOVED by Chairperson N Bakulich, seconded by Deputy Chairperson W Togiamua: That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board: a) ohia / endorse to the Governing Body the setting of the 2025/2026 BID targeted rates for inclusion in the 2025/2026 Annual Plan and budget for the following Business Improvement District (BID) programmes: i) $36,465.00 for Māngere Bridge BID ii) $345,570.00 for Māngere Town Centre BID iii) $786,694.00 for Ōtāhuhu BID iv) $87,425.00 for South Harbour BID b) tuhi tīpoka / note the misprint in Item 14, page 18, Table 1 of the agenda report titled “Endorsing Business Improvement District (BID) targeted rate grants for 2025/2026” where the Proposed 2025/2026 Targeted Rate incorrectly states $1,143,049.00 for the Māngere Bridge Business Association Inc, and acknowledge the correct amount should read $36,465.00 as tabled here in Attachment A. |

Your feedback, which mostly supported ending the BID, has guided the local board’s decision while highlighting the importance of clear communication and local involvement.

Resolution number MO/2025/77 MOVED by Chairperson N Bakulich, seconded by Member M Kolo: That the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board: a) tuku / grant, under the Local Government Act 2002, a new community lease to the Ōtāhuhu Historical Society Incorporated for approximately 50 square meters (more or less) of the council-owned building located at 12-16 High Street, Ōtāhuhu on land legally described as Lot 1 Deposited Plan 83294 and Part Allotment 9 SEC 3 Ōtāhuhu Village. The land is held in fee simple by Auckland Council under the Local Government Act 2002 (Attachment A – site plan), subject to the following terms and conditions: i) term – five years, commencing 21 May 2025 with one five-year right of renewal ii) rent – $1.00 plus GST per annum iii) operational charge - $2,250.00 plus GST per annum with 50% funded from a non-contestable grant out of the board’s grants budget for the next 5 years iv) community outcomes plan - to be appended to the lease agreement as a schedule (Attachment B – Community Outcomes Plan). b) whakaae / approve all other terms and conditions in accordance with the Auckland Council Community Occupancy Guidelines 2012 (updated 1 July 2023) and the Local Government Act 2002 c) tuhi tīpoka / note that public notification and iwi engagement about Auckland Council’s intention to grant a new community lease to the Ōtāhuhu Historical Society Incorporated for rooms within the council-owned building located at 12 – 16 High Street Ōtāhuhu was undertaken in May 2024 and February 2025, respectively d) tuhi tīpoka / note that staff did not receive any objections to the notified proposal of the new community lease to the Ōtāhuhu Historical Society Incorporated for rooms within the council-owned building at 12-16 High Street, Ōtāhuhu.
