Note 2:       No working party/workshop may reach any decision or adopt any resolution unless specifically delegated to do so.

Purpose of the report

1.       To present the Whau Local Board workshop agenda for 11 June 2025.

Executive summary

2.     Most workshops are open to the public to attend as observers in person.

3.       Some sessions may not be open to the public. The staff / chairperson and deputy chairperson decide which sessions are open to the public, depending on the sensitivity of the information being discussed. If a session is not open, a reason will be provided below.

4.       Local Board workshops provide an opportunity for local boards to carry out their governance role in the following areas:

a)   Accountability to the public

b)   Engagement

c)   Input to regional decision-making

d)   Keeping informed

e)   Local initiative / preparing for specific decisions

f)    Oversight and monitoring

g)   Setting direction / priorities / budget.

5.       Workshops do not have decision-making authority.

6.       Workshops are used to canvass issues, prepare local board members for upcoming decisions and to enable discussion between elected members and staff.

7.       Members are respectfully reminded of their Code of Conduct obligations with respect to conflicts of interest and confidentiality.

Item 1 – Parks and Community Facilities monthly update

Purpose / Outcome:     To provide the Board with a monthly update, and discuss options for funding of the Rizal Reserve section of Te Whau Pathway.

Item 2 – Towards a West Auckland Wide Economic Development Plan

1.30pm – 2.00pm

Presenter/s:                  Fole (Daleki) Finau, Intrapreneur - The Western Initiative (TWI)

 

Purpose / Outcome:     To reconnect the board with The Western Initiative's (TWI) move inside Council’s Economic Development Office and explore West-wide economic-development options and potential collaboration with Henderson-Massey and Waitākere Ranges, mana whenua and Pasifika/Migrant collectives.

 

Governance role:          Keeping informed.

Item 3 - Waitākere Ranges Heritage Area Deed of Acknowledgement: Public feedback and next steps

2.00pm – 3.00pm

Purpose:                       To seek elected member directions, based on the feedback from public consultation, on Auckland Council's position regarding the contents of the final Deed of Acknowledgement to be entered into with Te Kawerau ā Maki and the Crown.

 

Outcome:                      To have received enough direction from elected members to continue discussions with Te Kawerau ā Maki and the Crown. If agreement is reached on the final Deed, staff will seek formal approval from elected members at a later business meeting.

 

Governance role:          Local initiative / preparing for specific decisions

 

This workshop is being held with the public excluded to allow free and frank discussion.
