Greenways Plan scoping discussion Presenters: Chris Charles, Regional Trails Programme Manager Kristen Greenfield, Parks & Places Specialist Nina Rattray, Manager Landscape Architects Purpose: To seek agreement on the recommended approach; to gain an understanding of how the findings will inform and support future planning and development of greenways in the Franklin area. Governance Role: Setting direction/priorities/budgets Summary of Discussions: The board discussed previous local board direction that informed the development of current Greenways plans, and rationale for review of approach e.g. anticipating growth and enabling leverage from development. Possible informal priorities were raised to assist staff with revising the scope of work and delivery proposals.

Routley Ave Trees Presenters: David Skesjkal, Urban Forest, Arboriculture and Ecology Manager Candy Li, Project Manager Purpose: To discuss urban tree planting in light of public feedback around tree size, views, impact from root growth and significant leaf drop issues Governance Role: Setting direction/priorities/budgets Summary of Discussions: The urban tree planting issues focused on Routley Ave Pukekohe trees were discussed. As a response to community views, proposals for alternative specimen selection (in particular, not liquid amber and jacaranda) and replanting options were discussed. The board noted that it supports planting but in a way that considers community needs/local insights.

Instagram Trial review Presenters: Kala Clark, Snr Specialist Integrated Communications Gina Waikari, Specialist Local Communications Chris Baldock, Manager Local Communication Purpose: Feedback on the Franklin Instagram trial, and next steps Governance Role: Oversight and monitoring Summary of Discussions: The aim was to focus on young people and Māori in the community; increase visual content; grow understanding of the work the board does; and encourage participation in engagements in a new way. The audience size did not demonstrate a significant return on investment. Resourcing is insufficient. Other means of increasing the youth audience will be followed up.
